From Crisis to Care: Helping Patients Amid Kathmandu’s Unrest

Many of you have reached out after hearing news of the current unrest in Nepal, where protests over a government social media ban and broader frustrations with corruption and economic stagnation have turned deadly—prompting the Prime Minister’s resignation and military deployment under curfew.

ReSurge’s local team based at Kirtipur Hospital in Kathmandu are safe but very strained as they treat several burn victims from the violence. In addition, many members of our Nepal team–including Dr. Shankar Rai–have been unable to safely return home due to blocked roads and the curfew.

In moments of crisis like this, ReSurge’s local surgical teams are often on the front lines– working day and night to provide life-saving care. This is a reality in many of the low-and middle-income countries where we work, and a crucial reason why we invest in the long-term sustainability of our program hubs.

On behalf of ReSurge’s staff and board, I share the hope for a speedy return to peace and stability for our Nepali colleagues, friends, and patients who are so near and dear to our hearts.  In this spirit, we invite you to send a message of support to our doctors and nurses on the ground, please do so here—we will share your messages directly with the team.

If you would like to support the team’s critical work, your donation will contribute directly to helping patients on the ground.

Thank you for your continued support and spirit of community.
