The Face of Global Surgery Is Ever-Evolving

Since 1969, ReSurge has been at the forefront of the global surgery movement. Our history proves how an organization can adapt to new challenges and consistently grow its impact.

We began as a grassroots organization of medical professionals focused on traveling to low-income countries and serving people with cleft lips and palates. Witnessing the vast need for reconstructive surgery, we quickly broadened our range of assistance to a full scope of surgical solutions, including care for burn survivors and reconstruction from traumatic injuries like road traffic accidents, cancers, and other congenital conditions.

As our organization grew, so did our vision for serving the world. Instead of solely focusing on sending teams to provide reconstructive surgeries, we knew that we could amplify our ripple effect by training and funding local partners. Currently, we work in 19 low-income countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

We Are an Organization of Firsts

ReSurge is a founder in the global surgery movement, and we continue to grow our impact on global surgery by pioneering a sustainable training model for surgeons in low-income countries around the world.

We are one of the first surgical organizations to:

Travel overseas and perform reconstructive surgery for people in low-income countries

Adopt a patient-centric philosophy and prioritize the safety and well-being of those we serve above all else

Move away from the “fly-in” approach and prioritize capacity building by training and funding local medical practitioners

Train and fund surgeons in the full scope of reconstructive surgical care

Champion women in reconstructive surgery by partnering with SkinCeuticals to create the Pioneering Women in Reconstructive Surgery program (PWRS)

Standardize the curriculum and certification of all reconstructive surgeons in eastern, central, and southern Africa by partnering with the largest surgical training college

Help us create more firsts:
