In scaling access to surgical care globally, it is essential to consider climate-related costs and methods to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. On #EarthDay, we’re excited to announce a ReSurge study that compared CO2 emissions from air transportation in historic mission trips versus ReSurge Surgical Team Training Trips. Our findings suggest that the ReSurge curriculum and training model allow for sustainable global surgical care, reducing CO2 emissions from passenger and medical freight air transportation.

Luz was born without a thumb in her left hand or a radius bone in her right arm, due to a congenital anomaly called radial hemimelia which occurs in one out of every 30,000-100,000 live births. With the support of ReSurge International, Dr. Terrazas, a local ReSurge partner, worked closely with @amymmooremd, a ReSurge Medical Volunteer, and @drtinga who is part of the ReSurge Pioneering Women in Reconstructive Surgery Program (PWRS).
