Join Our Team of Medical Volunteers

ReSurge medical volunteers are critical members of our team and community. The goal of our volunteer program is to train surgical teams in low-income countries in an effort to build local capacity and create long-term, sustainable surgical care.

Surgical Team Training Trips

Medical volunteers with extensive teaching experience can apply to participate in our Surgical Team Training Trip program to deliver hands-on training to medical professionals in the countries we serve. These 10-day trips consist of small teams, usually up to 8 people, and focus on teaching specific techniques for a full range of reconstructive surgery, anesthesia, nursing, and physical therapy procedures through hands-on training and formal lectures.

The Surgical Team Training Trip program aims to educate low-income country surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, pediatricians, occupational therapists, and other support roles as necessary to build local capacity and create long-term, sustainable surgical care. Each trip is tailored to fit the needs of our overseas partners and track partner progress.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can volunteer?

ReSurge International teams include volunteer reconstructive surgeons, anesthesiologists, pediatricians, operating room and recovery room nurses, nurse educators, and physical and occupational therapists. At this time, we do not take volunteers who do not fit within these specialties.

What is the cost?

Unlike many organizations, our trip participants pay only a flat fee of $375 that goes toward travel expenses; ReSurge covers all remaining transportation and accommodation costs, although team members are responsible for some of their own meals during the trip. Additional voluntary contributions to help defray trip expenses are always welcomed.

What if I’m not a medical professional?

If you would like to volunteer or intern with ReSurge either remotely or at our Sunnyvale office, please send a message to info@resurge.org

How big are the teams?

Surgical Team Training Trips generally include up to 8 team members. We strive to maintain small teams to prevent our trips from overwhelming our host country colleagues and local medical facilities.

How long are the trips?

Our Surgical Team Training Trips are generally one week long. At this time, we do not offer long-term volunteer placements.
