Dr. Pramila Shakya: Pioneering Women in Reconstructive Surgery

Dr. Shakya is a maxillofacial surgeon at the Nepal Cleft and Burn Center at Kirtipur Hospital in Kathmandu. She primarily handles cleft lip and palate cases, along with facial traumas. Once a month, she serves on one of the Center’s outreach teams, traveling to an outreach center in rural areas of Nepal.

Dr. Shakya earned her BDS at Pioneer Dental College in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and a MDS from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), also in Bangladesh. She did a two-month fellowship at the Spires Cleft Centre in Oxford, United Kingdom, as well as a fellowship in cleft lip and palate under Dr. Shankar Rai, of ReSurge Nepal.
