Is my donation tax deductible?
Yes. ReSurge International (formerly Interplast) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit service provider, with IRS nonprofit identification number 23-7297770. All charitable contributions are fully tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
How are donations used?
Unless designated for a specific purpose, donations are used to support the organization's greatest need at the discretion of ReSurge management. Donations to support surgical care including patient follow-up are pooled and allocated accordingly.
How much does surgical care cost through ReSurge?
The costs can vary greatly. The average cost of surgical care through our surgical team trips is high when you factor in travel expenses for a full medical team. That being said, nearly 90 percent of ReSurge's surgical care is provided by our international medical partners with our Surgical Outreach Programs. Surgical care in these areas is funded based on length of operation. The cost ranges from $250 to $600 for complex cases. The average operation cost is $325. This funding is intended to cover hospital use, the surgeon and medical team as well as medicine and supplies.
What is the Surgical Care Fund?
Donations to ReSurge's Surgical Care Fund are allocated directly toward supporting surgical operations and related care in the countries where we work around the world, which can include covering the cost of items like medications, sutures, hospital bed fees, food, transportation costs, and the surgical teams' time.
Who can volunteer?
Although we encourage everyone to help, we do not take non medical staff,
nor residents or medical school students on our surgical team trips. For
information, on how to become an office volunteer or an intern, please visit
our volunteer page.
Are you providing plastic surgery?
The type of surgeries we provide are entirely reconstructive and should
not be confused with cosmetic plastic surgery. Reconstructive surgery can
change the lives of men and women who have been disabled because
of tragic burns and other accidents and/or children who were born with
deformities. Our patients are given a second chance at a more normal or
functional life through reconstructive surgery.
Do you provide surgeries inside the United States?
We do not offer our services inside of the United States. We operate in 13 countries around the world, which is coordinated from our headquarters in
Why did you change your name to ReSurge International?
After much discussion and consideration, in 2010 we decided to change our name from Interplast to ReSurge International.
We believe it perfectly describes what we’re doing around the world. The “Re”
stands for “reconstructive” and the “Surge” for “surgery.” The word “International” is in our name because we provide surgical care in 13
countries around the world.
Most importantly, ReSurge International speaks to the benefit of our work.
ReSurge literally means to rise again; in Spanish, it means to reappear.
That’s what reconstructive surgery does for our patients. It restores their
bodies so they can rejoin their communities after being shunned for their
disfigurements and disabilities. It renews their dreams of going to school and
providing for their families. It rebuilds their futures and gives them a second
chance for productive lives.
Where do you work?
We work in 13 countries around the world in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
