Director, Medical Programs and Impact

ReSurge International (formerly Interplast) seeks an experienced, analytical leader to serve as its Director of Medical Programs and Impact (DMPI). ReSurge treats children and adults with disabling burns, congenital deformities, and other conditions, and works to train and empower developing world physicians to perform surgeries on their own for generations to come.

The DMPI will report to the Chief Operating Officer, will work very closely with the Consulting Medical Officer to plan and execute programs, and will serve as a key member of the senior leadership team along with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Development Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Advocacy and Communications Officer. The DMPI will be responsible for the ongoing development and management of ReSurge's key programs, as well as researching and developing new programmatic opportunities throughout the developing world.

The ideal candidate for this role is an extremely organized, diplomatic, outcome-oriented professional who is experienced with data management and analysis and has a successful track record of managing multi-faceted health projects to improve the health of the underserved.


Essential responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:


Leadership and Strategy

Help shape and execute ReSurge International strategic priorities.
Help identify new opportunities and design programs to help achieve mission.
Serve as member of senior leadership team.

Analysis/Research

Manage, coordinate, and implement activities related to performance management at various program sites. This includes developing logic models, developing data collection instruments, collecting and analyzing data, and writing reports.
Manage databases for year-round surgical outreach programs and perform periodic trend analyses.
Serve as primary manager of all patient data across all programmatic categories.
Develop monitoring and evaluation plans to assess impact.
Use internal databases and external sources to design and implement research projects for project improvement and publication.
Assist Development and Communications Departments and President & CEO with data and fact-checking for all major grant proposals and reports, restricted funding tracking, annual reports, newsletters.

Project Management and Communication

Serve as primary point of contact for multiple international medical partners in 10+ countries to help troubleshoot challenges, grow programs, and develop programmatic strategy.
Work with programs staff to design, manage, and deploy all international service and education trips.
Act as "ears on the ground" for all international programs and be able to answer specific questions from donors, board members, and other staff members about all programmatic activities.
Assist Consulting Medical Officer with presentations to board of directors.
Serve as key point of contact for some major donors and foundations.
Manage quality assurance consultant to ensure all patient care meets high quality standards.

Financial Management

Develop and manage $1.5 million medical programs budget.
Monitor ongoing projects to ensure they are on budget and on time.
Assist CFO with annual audit and 990 reporting.

The DMPI will most likely have opportunities to travel internationally within the first year on the job, with the typical annual travel ranging from 5-15% time. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with excellent benefits.


Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required.
Master's in public health, international development, non-profit management, or other related field preferred.
4-6 years experience working in public health or a related field.
Experience managing multi-faceted programs towards clear goal.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills required.
Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (advanced skills in Excel preferred), Google Apps, FileMaker Pro (a plus).
Experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
Language skills (particularly Spanish, Vietnamese, Hindi) are a plus.
Experience with human-centered design a plus.

Other Requirements

Ability to work at a computer workstation for periods up to four hours at a time.
Ability to sit for up to three hours without breaks at meetings.
Ability to get along and work effectively with others. Ability to be flexible and adapt to new situations.
Regular, predictable attendance.
Some weekend work required once per quarter.
Ability and willingness to travel internationally 5-15% of the year as determined by programmatic needs.

Medical Programs and Logistics Coordinator

ReSurge International (formerly Interplast) seeks an efficient, detail-oriented coordinator in our medical programs department to help plan and deploy 15+ international surgical trips per year, troubleshoot logistics issues that occur domestically and abroad, and assist with other duties as assigned.

The medical programs and logistics coordinator will report to the director of medical programs and impact and will be a key member of a five-person medical programs team. While the majority of the job (85%) will be directly related to medical programs and logistics, a portion of the job (15%) will be to assist with administrative and IT responsibilities in the home office.

The ideal candidate for this role is an extremely organized person who is outcome-oriented and collaborative. The medical programs and logistics coordinator will frequently communicate via email and phone with medical volunteers, international partners, consulates, visa-issuing authorities, and other stakeholders, so excellent and diplomatic written and verbal communication skills are essential. The coordinator may have opportunities to travel internationally within the first year on the job. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with excellent benefits. The ideal start date for this job is May 11, 2015.


Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities

Medical Programs

Compile and track all metrics from surgical team trips (patient data, outcomes, value of donated services)
Work with director of medical programs and impact and COO/medical programs officer on annual budget planning process
One weekend per quarter, help organize and take minutes for medical specialty meetings
Review and capture feedback from medical volunteers and international partners from team trip reports
Conduct short term research projects as assigned
Participate in strategy discussions with medical programs staff and help shape medical programs

Logistics

Work with travel agents to coordinate international travel for all medical volunteers
Work with medical volunteers and foreign consulates to research and obtain appropriate visas for medical volunteers
Assist the assistant director of volunteers and medical supplies with preparation and submission of customs documentation for medical supplies to enter and exit each country with the teams
Train volunteer trip coordinator/translators and manage purchasing for coordinator supplies
Register medical teams with in-country embassies prior to each trip
Work with assistant director of volunteers and medical services to research requirements for volunteer medical registration for each site
Communicate with international partners and travel agents regarding on-site logistics for all medical teams traveling internationally
Work with medical programs staff to ensure all projects stay on task, on time, and on budget

Administrative Support

Process check requests, reimbursements, and expense reports across multiple currencies
Act as liaison to third party IT consultant and troubleshoot small technical issues in office
Work with IT consultant on software/hardware purchases and installations
Assist the consulting medical officer and director of medical programs and impact with administrative tasks as needed

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree required
Comfort and familiarity with managing and tracking expenses
Demonstrated interest in medicine, public health, and/or logistics required
Sense of humor required!

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
